Baseball has discovered Jose Bautista

The news today coming out of baseball is that Blue Jay outfielder Jose Bautista leads all MLB in all-star balloting with over 4 million votes. He has nearly 500,000 more votes than his nearest challenger, Robinson Cano of the Yankees.

This is simply amazing. Let's face it Toronto is a baseball backwater. Sure we won two World Series in the early 1990s but we now just another small market team. The fact that fans in New York, Boston and Chicago are voting for Bautista over Curtis Granderson, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Josh Hamilton speaks to Bautista's star power.

Perhaps this time the Jays will hang onto their star player. Over the past 18 years too many impact players have moved on either through free agency or trade including Carlos Delgado, Shawn Green, Roy Halladay, and Roberto Alomar.
